Mobility Case StudyInstitute of EducationFounded in 1902, the Institute of Education (IoE) is a world class centre of excellence for research, teacher training, higher degrees and consultancy in education and education related areas of social science. Over the years they have expanded their activities and now offer courses leading to higher degrees in all areas of education and related aspects of the social sciences and professional practice. The IoE also offer short courses and host conferences responsive to the professional and personal requirements of education practitioners at all levels of the education system. THE REQUIREMENT It is a common challenge amongst educational institutions to embrace technologies which not only enhance their own operational performance but also give the wider student and staff community access to resources in a fast, efficient and safe manner. The security solutions deployed by the IoE were part of a much larger ITC strategy which primarily involved future plans to implement wireless and IP Telephony for around 5,000 users. These solutions therefore needed to be fully compliant for both the technologies of today and those in the future. THE SOLUTION Applinet plc worked in unison with Nortel from the very early stages to help the Institute of Education capture the technical and practical requirements of students and staff. The Institute of Education's solution comprised of a portfolio of Nortel's security products:
These solutions instantly provided the IoE with secure access and control across multiple sites for students and staff. This security foundation thus enabled the progression to implementing a larger ITC strategy. Implementing such a strategy sets a positive example within the academia environment. The IoE decided to adopt new technologies in a proactive way so that IoE members reap the benefits from the latest technologies available. Subsequently, the IoE believes that their community is increasingly integrated by promoting the sharing of information collaboration between students and staff with the confidence that data transfer and delivery between parties is safe.
